What is Eyelash Extension?

Not to be confused with self-stick falsies that are a single-event accessory, these semi-permanent, synthetic extensions are glued one by one onto the natural lash (not the skin) by using specially formulated glue that lasts 3-5 weeks. Eyelash extensions are a relatively new beauty service in this country but have been patronized by locals for years. It produces a beautiful set of eyes with a natural look that lasts for 3-5 weeks, depending on how you look after and maintain your new lashes.

Right Technician

We cannot emphasize the importance of choosing the right eyelash technician who has been trained properly with enough experience. The wrong application of eyelash extensions may cause hygiene issues or you to lose your own lashes.

How is it applied?

A single natural eyelash is isolated, and an extension lash is glued to the top of your own natural eyelash approximately 1mm from the eyelid so neither the glue nor the lash has contact with the skin.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure will take approximately 1 hour for a full set. Lash touch-up takes lesser time, while re-doing (removing the remaining extensions from the previous application and setting a whole new set) will take a bit more than 60 minutes. It is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration; therefore, it should not be rushed so that you can leave with a perfect set of lashes that last 2-4 weeks. You can relax with your eyes closed and since it is a non-invasive procedure, you will not feel any pain while the lashes are being attached. Often, our customers are so relaxed that they fall asleep.

Does eyelash extension make my own lashes fall out?

No. This is the last thing we want our customers to experience. There are lots of low-skilled eyelash salons whose service may cause this. With the right operation (single lash attachment, qualified glue, and skilled technicians), you will never experience such a horror. At Jean Yip Salon, many of our customers have been with us for years and have constantly had extensions applied without encountering their lashes falling off. Eyelashes have a cycle and are constantly being replaced like your hair. We strongly don’t recommend you to forcibly pull out your lash extension as you will have to wait 6-8 weeks for new lashes to grow.

Can I still wear eye make up?

Yes, but you won’t need mascara and you may even find you won’t need eyeliner either. You can still use eyeliner and eye shadow as usual but remember to remove it with a product that does not contain oil of any kind which can affect the glue. We strongly recommend using our specialized home care products to take care of your extensions. We recommend using our oil-free cleansing gel to gently remove your eye make-up in an upward movement, not down onto the eyelash extensions. Wiping in a downward direction will cause the buildup of makeup on the lashes and may lessen the lifespan of your eyelash extensions.

Can I wear mascara?

You won’t have to. These extensions will make your lashes look like you’re wearing mascara 24/7 without the clumped, streaked and smudged that you get with mascara. If you want to use mascara, we have special mascara that is removed easily with lukewarm water.

Can I curl or perm eyelash extensions?

You won’t have to as the extension lashes have a natural curled shape. Using a clamp eyelash curler is not recommended as it will lessen the lifespan of your eyelash extensions and damage them.

How long will they last?

Approximately 3-5 weeks if you take care of your new lashes as instructed by our experienced technician. Your real lash’s life cycle is around 25-28 days, and as yours grow and fall out, so will the extensions that are attached. Your lifestyle and working environment also make a difference in how long they last. A lady with eyelash extensions working in the food industry where there is a lot of heat, steam and oil may not last as long as a lady who works in an air-conditioned office.

Few of the eyelashes fall out after few days?

Since eyelashes have a growth cycle, it is hard to determine which lash is ready to fall out naturally, so it is unpredictable when applying the extensions. It is natural for 3-5 natural lashes to fall out a day.

What is re-touching and why do you need it?

Re-touching can be done within 2 weeks of your appointment. In this procedure, we remove any eyelash extensions that have either grown out too far or are not sitting correctly and add extensions to where previous ones have fallen off. If you would like to retain a full fresh set of lashes all the time, this would be a great option for you. A complete removal procedure is also required every 3-4 weeks for hygiene reasons and quality control.

Please make an appointment for re-touching WITHIN 2 weeks from your last appointment. Allow approximately 1 hour for re-touching bookings.

Do eyelash extensions come in different lengths and thickness?

Yes. Our salon technicians are trained 3-D eyelash designers who can combine 3 kinds of curls, 4 kinds of lengths, and 3 kinds of thickness to create gorgeous yet looking natural eyelash extensions for you. The length and thickness of the extensions are all applied in the design according to your preferred look, a rare professional skill you will love.

We tailor the design to suit individual clients. Some designs are not suitable for the clients’ own lash condition. If you have a specific request or look, please consult with your eyelash extension technicians on the day of your appointment.

Are eyelash extensions glued to my skin?

No, it is adhered approximately 1mm from the eyelid. So, your skin is not to be affected by the glue.

Is the eyelash extension glue and glue remover safe?

Yes, in our right hands and with our products, it is absolutely safe. We have selected the best, safest and most suitable products for Singapore climate.

Are eyelash extensions suitable for everyone?

Yes! Eyelash Extensions in Singapore are so natural that anyone can wear them. They are also suitable for people who wear contact lenses and glasses. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE AN EYE INFECTION OR HAVE RECENTLY UNDERGONE AN EYE OPERATION OR COSMETIC EYE SURGERY, IT WOULD BE BEST TO WAIT UNTIL THE EYE AREA HAS COMPLETELY HEALED.

Why should I get an eyelash extension?
  1. It will cut your beauty routine time down in the mornings
  2. No runny or streaked mascara and eyeliners
  3. Lasts 3-5 weeks with proper maintenance
  4. A minimal discomfort non-invasive procedure
  5. Safe in showers, swimming pools and saunas; however, it may affect the lasting period
  6. Perfect for brides, mums on the go and busy people
After-care of my eyelash extensions
  1. For the first 5 hours, avoid getting the lashes wet to allow the glue to dry completely.
  2. Do not use a steam room or sauna for the first 48 hours to allow glue to cure.
  3. Be gentle. Avoid rubbing your eyes, do not pick and play with your lashes. (Resist the temptation to touch or pull at your extensions as this will pull out your own natural lashes).
  4. When drying your face, blot your face and apply gentle pressure to your closed eyes. Allow the eyelash extensions dry naturally. Don’t dry them with a towel or hair dryer.
  5. Do not perm or curl the extensions using a clamp eyelash curler.
  6. Avoid wearing mascara as this will lessen the lifespan of your extensions.
  7. Use an oil-free eye make-up remover. Alternatively, we recommend you to use our cleansing gel which is specially formulated for eyelash extension users.
  8. Do keep the eye area clean. Poor hygiene can result in an eye infection, whether you are wearing eyelash extensions or not.
  9. Try and sleep on your back to avoid crushing your eyelash extensions in the pillow.
The golden rule for wearing eyelash extensions is the lesser you touch them, the longer they will last. However, it is very important to keep the eye area clean.
Can eyelash extensions be removed?

Yes, at any time and for any reason. Do note that there is a removal charge. The eyelash extensions are easily removed using our professional glue remover, which is safe and will cause no harm to your natural lashes.

What to do before doing eyelash extensions?

Preferably arrive with no mascara and do not perm or curl your eyelashes before your eyelash extension appointment. If you are wearing contact lenses, please bring your contact lens case as your lenses will need to be removed. It is fine to wear foundation, eyeliner and eye shadow however your lower eyeliner may be a little smudged from wearing the under-eye cover surgical tape.
