IPL Hair Removal

IPL Hair Removal Singapore

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a technology aimed at producing light of high intensity during a short period of time. It’s a method of hair removal for the body and involves the use of a specially constructed flash lamp and focusing optics. Cheaper and faster than laser hair removal, the IPL Long Term Hair removal procedure in Singapore has become very popular. Although the precise effectiveness of IPL compared to laser epilation is debated by scientists, equipment manufacturers and practitioners, their results are generally acceptable to be roughly equivalent.

IPL Hair Removal FAQ

Our dermal papilla cells help to induce hair growth, regenerate the hair follicles and regulate the hair follicle pigmentation which gives the hair its colour. Therefore, to remove unwanted hair permanently, we will need to target the melanin by destroying the hair follicles and hair-producing papilla.

First, our professional beautician will clean the area that’s being treated and apply a layer of cooling gel which helps to alleviate any redness after the treatment.

During your treatment, you’ll also need to wear a pair of dark glasses to protect your eyes against the IPL lasers. Thereafter, with use of a handheld IPL device, our professional beautician will target multiple wavelengths of light pulses onto the targeted skin area.

The IPL device emits pulses of light through the skin and strikes the hair shafts and hair root. As the light is absorbed, it heats the skin cells and breaks them down, destroying the hair follicles and hair-producing papilla – Causing hair to fall off and preventing new hair growth, at least for about a year.

IPL is minimal discomfort and does not cause any discomfort to your body. Generally, with the use of cooling gel before the treatment would help to reduce any redness.

Depending on which part of your body is being treated and how large the area is, each treatment session should take about 20 to 30 minutes.

Our hair has a growth phase, a rest phase, and a shedding phase. Our hair does not grow and shed in the same phase of the cycle at the same time, therefore in order to get rid of them permanently, we need to do repeat IPL treatments.

IPL Long Term Hair Removal is generally safe for most people but may not be suitable for everyone. Pregnant women and people who are on blood thinners should avoid IPL treatments.

Also, you may not be suitable for IPL treatments if you:

  1. Are taking medication for other conditions
  2. Use a retinoid cream
  3. Have a skin condition and/or might have skin cancer
  4. Have active acne or skin inflammation
  5. Are suffering from a skin resurfacing disorder
  6. Are sensitive to light
  7. Have severe scarring or suffered severe sunburn recently
  8. Are very dark-skinned
  1. Tan in the sun or apply tanning creams 4 weeks before the IPL treatment
  2. Shave, wax or get a chemical peel at least 2 weeks before
  3. Take aspirin or another drug that can make you bleed more
  4. Take any medication that will make you sensitive to light and sun
  5. Apply any cream that will make you sensitive to light and sun

You may notice some dead hair on your skin surface 10 days after your IPL treatment. These are not new grown hair and it’s known as one of the hair cycle stage – Shedding phase.

Exfoliation helps to breakdown and expel the dead hair from underneath the skin, preventing in-grown hairs. Therefore, it is important to start exfoliating the treated areas during your shower after 10-14 days or when your treated skin area does not feel any discomfort.

You may use a moist cloth or exfoliation mitt to cleanse the treated area. Do note that it will take time to shed all the dead hair away as well.

It is essential to take care of your treated skin after your IPL session, when your skin’s surface will become more sensitive. Here’s some of the aftercare recommendation, depending on your treated area:
